Stories have a unique ability to draw us closer to our ancestors and help us understand more about who we are. This became even clearer to me recently when I sent a photo of my grandfather to my grandchildren. The best part: he was a cowboy. They loved it—their 2nd great-grandfather was a real rootin’-tootin’ Wild West buckaroo! My grandchildren were instantly interested in his life—someone they’ve never met but that they are starting to get to know. They now have a connection to the past and a better perspective of their own family story. That is the magic of family history—bridging generations by getting to know those who came before us.
As you can see, we’ve made some enhancements to the FamilySearch.org website–all intended to help better record and share the “family” part of family history.
Creating tools to help you discover meaningful connections between family past and present is what drives our work at FamilySearch. It is also at the core of a series of exciting refinements to our website to help make creating those lasting connections easier and more enjoyable. The first of these enhancements have now been made to FamilySearch, with more to come over the next few months. These enhancements will enable you to:
- Upload and share photos and stories. (Note that due to overwhelming popularity, this feature will be rolled out gradually to website users.)
- Preserve information about ancestors in our collaborative Family Tree.
- Get live, personal research help online.
- View your family lineage in an interactive fan chart.
- Enjoy an updated look and easier navigation.
We hope you enjoy the enhanced FamilySearch experience and that you are able to use the new tools to create a meaningful connection with generations past. Rest assured, we’re working hard to provide this new experience while at the same time continuing to offer all the great features you currently use. We’re excited to have you give the new features a try and look forward to the stories they will help you tell.
