After months of hard work and testing, Family Tree is now available to all users of new.familysearch.org. A first step in enhancing the experience on the FamilySearch.org website, Family Tree is a great way to collaborate with others, edit and delete incorrect data, preserve family history research, and easily prepare names for temple work.
Click here to try it out (you’ll need to log in with your LDS FamilySearch Account credentials).
New to Family Tree? You’ll want to watch this special intro video and then visit the training site created to provide instruction for new and experienced users of Family Tree. Once you are familiar with Family Tree, you will be able to help the many others that will be using this upgrade and future replacement to new.familysearch.org in the near future. The resources available on the training site can also be used as material for Family Tree training classes in your family history center.
Work on Family Tree has been ongoing, with many new features coming soon. These new features include:
- The ability to use Family Tree on behalf of someone else (“Helper” mode)
- Additional features to reduce merging of non-duplicate records
- The migration from new.FamilySearch.org of individual and family notes as well as user-entered sources
- The ability to print pedigree charts, family group records, and other reports
Family Tree is the latest effort by FamilySearch to support the longstanding and recently reaffirmed Church focus on redeeming our kindred dead. Family Tree is a great tool that will enhance the work of family history both within and outside the church, on both sides of the veil. Try it today!
