Come join our Project Completion team. Project completion is an important final step in the indexing process. When projects are indexed they must be submitted as a full set of records. Sometimes there are images that volunteers do not want to index because they are challenging, hard to read, or cannot be read. These last few images can slow the delivery of an entire set of records. These challenging records need to be submitted quickly to minimize any delays in completing the project. To reduce this delay the project completion team works to figure out what to do with these challenging records. This is why we are looking to increase the amount of people on the project completion team.
Working on the project completion team you would quickly determine the status of an image and index it if possible. It is important to not spend more than an hour on any image. There are three options once you receive an image in this process. If the image is totally unreadable you will mark it as unreadable and move on. If it is partially unreadable you will index what is readable, making sure to take no more than an hour on any image. If the image is totally readable you will index the record, again taking no longer than an hour on any image.
There are a few reasons that it is important to not spend more than an hour on any image. There are so many records out there that need to be indexed that it is not prudent to spend too much time on one image. It is important for you to know that just because you do not index it the information will not be “lost.” The images will still be made available online, and your work will not be the last that is ever done.
The project completion team needs help completing these records right now. Anyone that is interested in taking on this challenge is welcome to become a member of this team. If you are interested in being a part of the project completion team, please send an e-mail to the group administrator, Byron Mortensen, at firstname.lastname@example.org with your interest in being on the team. Byron will contact you with instructions on how to become a member of that team.
