Sometimes, a sealing-to-parents ordinance status does not show correctly, even though the ordinance was done. In these cases, the person page shows the sealing-to-parents ordinance status as "Request" rather than as completed. You also see a green temple icon on the pedigree chart when all the ordinances appear to be completed. Here are some reasons:
- The sealing ordinance is attached to the records of parents that you cannot see because their records are marked as "Living" in Family Tree.
- Someone deleted the child-to-parent relationship that connects the child to the parents that he or she was sealed to.
- The child is linked to multiple parents. The sealing is completed for one set but not the other.
Steps
- See if the child shows multiple sets of parents.
- Merge any duplicates that you find.
- Duplicate records could each have a set of ordinance dates. When you merge them, the earliest effective date appears in the ordinance tab.
- If the child shows multiple sets of parents for a good reason, you can seal the child to both sets.
- Look at the Latest Changes list, and look to see if someone removed the parent-child relationship.
- If they are the correct parents, restore them to the family.
- If they are the wrong parents, add the correct parents, and do the sealing.
