A new look and feel for the FamilySearch Catalog

FamilySearch Catalog Search Screen

The FamilySearch Catalog has recently been upgraded. In most cases, the new catalog works the same as the old.

You can still:

  • Search with the same robust methods.
  • Narrow and filter your search results with ease.
  • Create and save print lists.

New Catalog search page

The initial Catalog search page has the most noticeable changes. The entire Catalog search page interface is updated to match other FamilySearch tools and pages. This change will have no effect on how you search the Catalog.

Improved filtering on the search results page

The new Catalog lets you filter and adjust your search results, directly from the search results page.

Key features include:

  • Change your search in the right panel of the search results page. You can add or remove searches, change the search terms, and make other changes to what you entered on the initial search page.
  • Filters appear at the top of the search results page instead of the left.

Minor design refinements to Catalog entries and the print list

Catalog entries (the descriptions of items in the FamilySearch collection) look and work the same, with a few refinements to the design.

Building and using the print list is also the same as in the previous catalog, with a few design refinements.

Expanded content

In 2022, we had to stop adding new holdings to the old catalog. We’ve added the backlog to the new Catalog and will add new holdings as they are acquired.

Expanded places

The FamilySearch Catalog now uses the same, expanding list of standard places as the rest of FamilySearch. As the FamilySearch collection grows, so does your ability to find the items you need within it.
