Can I delete my comments on photos, stories, documents, and audio files in Memories?

The FamilySearch website provides the comments feature as a way for contributors to communicate with each other about Memories items. You can delete the comments you add to memories.

  • You can add comments to any Memories item.
  • You can delete the comments you add, but you cannot delete the comments of another user. An editing feature has not yet been made available.
  • You receive an email message each time someone else adds a comment to an item that you have contributed. The message includes a link to the item and the comment.
  • To contact the contributor who commented, click his or her name. If the contributor chose to share contact information, you can see it.  
  • If you do not see contact information, use the FamilySearch messaging system to contact a contributor.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch and click Memories.
  2. Click Gallery. 
  3. Find the item with the comment that you want to delete. 
  4. To open the image viewer, click the item. To the right of the item is an Information panel.
  5. At the top of the Information panel, click the icon that looks like a dialogue box. 
  6. For a comment that you added, click the trash can icon. 

Steps (Tree or Memories mobile app on Apple iOS)

  1. If using the Tree app, first navigate to the person whose memory item has the comment that you want to delete.
  2. Tap the Memories tab.
  3. Tap the memory item.
  4. If you do not see icons on the upper or lower-right, tap in the memory.
  5. Tap the second icon from the left which looks like a dialogue box.
  6. To the right of the comment that you want to delete, tap the trash can icon.
  7. Tap Delete.
  8. To close the comment box, tap X.

Steps (Tree or Memories mobile app on Android)

  1. If using the Tree app, first navigate to the person whose memory item has the comment that you want to delete.
  2. Tap the Memories tab.
  3. Tap the memory item.
  4. In the upper right, tap the 3 dots.
  5. Tap Comments.
  6. To the right of the comment that you want to delete, tap the trash can icon.
  7. Tap Delete.

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite does not include the Memories feature.
