Can I download or print books in the Digital Library?

Access level varies for books in the Digital Library. You can download and print all Public books. You can view Limited Permission books, but cannot print or download. To access the FamilySearch Digital Library, use the full website.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.
  2. Click Search and then Books.
  3. Find and open a book of interest.
  4. In the toolbar above the book image, click the down arrow.
  5. Click to choose a file format and continue with the appropriate instruction set.

PDF

If you want to download or print more than one page, choose the PDF format.

  1. In the Download area, click to select the full PDF (the entire book) or the page currently in the viewer.
  2. Click Download.
  3. Find the download on your computer (location varies depending on your settings).
  4. To read or print the file, open the downloaded PDF file.

JPG

JPG is a picture format. Use JPG when you want an image of a page or part of a page.

  1. In the Download area, click to select the current page or a portion of the page.
  2. For a portion of the page, drag and size the box to include the portion you want to download.
  3. Click Download.
  4. Find the download on your computer (location varies depending on your settings).
  5. To print, open the JPG.
