While your source box is open, you can attach a source to a person in Family Tree.
There are two main ways to attach a source that is already in your source box to a person in Family Tree. This article explains how to attach a source to a person directly from your Source Box. You can also navigate through Family Tree to attach the source.
Steps (website)
- While signed in to FamilySearch, in the top-right portion of the screen, click your name.
- Click Source Box.
- Find the source that you want to attach to a person.
- Click Attach.
- Click the tab for the kind of search you want to use to find the person:
- By Name. Enter a name and other information, then click Next.
- Inputting alternate names into the name fields can help you find a person using nicknames, married names, and other alternate names.
- Searching for a birth event searches for both birth and christening information.
- Searching for a death event searches for both death and burial information.
- You can use wildcards in the names of people and places. Enter * to replace zero or more characters. Enter ? to replace one character.
- By ID Number. Enter a Family Tree ID number, then click Find.
- Recents. View your list of recently viewed people. Click Attach next to the correct person.
- By Name. Enter a name and other information, then click Next.
- When searching by name, find the correct person from the search results. Click Attach Source.
- Explain your reason for attaching it.
- Click Attach.
Steps (mobile app)
Currently, the Family Tree and Memories mobile apps do not include the source box feature. Visit the FamilySearch website to manage your sources.
Steps (Family Tree Lite)
Currently, Family Tree Lite does not include the Sources feature. Visit the full website to manage your sources.
