How do I detach sources from a person in Family Tree?

If a source is attached to the wrong person in Family Tree, you can detach it.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch, and click Family Tree.
  2. Navigate to the details page of the person who has the source.
  3. Click the Sources tab.
  4. Click the source that you want to detach.
  5. Click Detach
  6. Verify the information in the pop-up window, and add a reason statement.
  7. To confirm, click Detach.

Steps (mobile app)

In the Family Tree mobile app, you can detach a source.

  1. Navigate to the person page.
  2. Tap Sources.
  3. Tap the source that you want to detach.
  4. On the upper right, tap the 3 dots.
  5. Tap Detach.
  6. Enter a reason to detach.
  7. To confirm, click Detach.

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite does not display sources. Please use the full Family Tree on the FamilySearch.org website instead.
