How do I transfer sources between Ancestry and Family Tree?

Share

Many of the sources in your family tree at Ancestry can be transferred to Family Tree. You can transfer all of the sources documenting deceased ancestors. Until Ancestry changes their systems, you cannot transfer sources for living people.

Before you start

  • Sign in to Ancestry using the free account offered to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. To set up a free account, go to our Third-party subscription page, and follow the instructions for registering.
  • The deceased person in your Ancestry tree must be the same deceased person in Family Tree.
  • The source you want to transfer must already be attached to the same deceased person in your Ancestry tree.

Steps

  1. Sign in to your Ancestry account.
  2. Click Trees.
  3. Click the tree from which you want to transfer sources.
  4. Click a deceased individual on the tree.
  5. On the Summary card, click Profile.
  6. In the upper right portion of the screen, click the FamilySearch green tree icon.
  7. To sign in to FamilySearch, click Sign In.
  8. If the Select match for [name] screen appears, you can connect the person or add the person to FamilySearch.
  9. After you add or connect the individual, click the FamilySearch icon again.
  10. Click Compare person on FamilySearch in the menu.
  11. Scroll to the sources section. Sources on the right are from your Ancestry tree. Sources on the left are from FamilySearch.
  12. To transfer a source, click the box to the left of the source.
  13. At the bottom of the screen, click Save Changes.
