In Family Tree, divorce information is displayed on a couple's relationship with the marriage events. Below are key aspects to understand:
- Divorces only show on the Person page if it is the only marriage event.
- If there is a marriage date and a divorce date for a couple, then only the marriage date shows on the person page.
- If a marriage exists, regardless of its order of entry, it will appear on the person’s page. To view or edit the divorce details, click the edit icon

Family Tree displays marriage events in chronological order. If the events are out of order, add or correct the dates as needed.
Steps (website)
- Sign in to FamilySearch.org.
- In the top menu, click Family Tree, and then click Tree.
- If needed, switch to your private tree or the family group tree where the couple's record is located.
- Display the person page of one of the spouses.
- If Details does not show, click Details.
- Scroll to Family Members.
- Find the couple that got divorced. If it is recorded in the system, then right under their names, it shows the word "Divorce." To edit the marriage or divorce information, click the edit icon
next to the word "Divorce."
Steps (mobile app)
- Open the Family Tree mobile app.
- If needed, switch to your private tree or the family group tree where the couple's record is located.
- Display the person page of one of the spouses.
- Tap Spouses.
- Tap the down arrow of the spouse from whom this person was divorced.
- Tap the pencil icon that is next to the marriage event. Look for the divorce date and place.
Steps (Family Tree Lite)
- On the Family screen, find the spouses.
- Click the pencil icon to the right of the marriage information. Look for the divorce information.
