Images from old image viewer (web or Apple iOS mobile)
The old image viewer opens with the record image in the center of the screen. An image index (for indexed records) shows at the bottom of the screen. You can modify the image from two different areas.
To the right of the image is a set of icons.
- To see thumbnail images of the records, click the 3x3 grid icon.
- To make the image full-screen, click the square icon with breaks in the lines.
- To make the image larger (zoom in), click +.
- To make the image smaller (zoom out), click -.
- The tools icon (shows two sliders) provides more options:
- To find keyboard options, in the upper right, click Keyboard Shortcuts.
- To rotate the image, click Left. Click again until the image is properly oriented.
- Adjust Image provides options to adjust the brightness and contrast of the images. Use the sliders. To apply the adjustments, click outside of the tool.
- To change the image to white on a black background, click Invert Image Colors.
- To rotate the image, click Rotate Image Left or Rotate Image Right. Click again until you see the orientation you desire.
- To return to the original view, click Reset.
Images from the old image viewer (Android mobile)
The old image viewer opens with the record image in the center of the screen. An image index (for indexed records) shows at the bottom of the screen. You can modify the image from two different areas. To the left of the image, is a rectangle with four icons.
- To make the image larger (zoom in), click +.
- To make the image smaller (zoom out), click -.
- To see thumbnail images of the records, click the 8-dots icon.
- The bottom icon allows a full screen view of the image.
In the upper-right, click Tools, and find more options:
- To rotate the image, click Left. Click again until the image is properly oriented.
- Adjust Image provides options to adjust the brightness and contrast of the images. Use the sliders, and then click Apply.
- To change the image to white on a black background, click Invert.
Images from new image viewer (web)
Some images that you find from Search records open in the new image viewer. All of the images you find from Explore Historical Images open in the new image viewer.
In the upper right portion of the image viewer are tools to modify the image.
- The grid icon returns you to the thumbnail images.
- To adjust the image, click the fourth icon (a box with 2 sliders).
- The Brightness slider allows you to adjust the image brightness.
- Use the Contrast slider if you want to adjust the image contrast.
- To change the image to white on a black background, click the Invert Image Colors toggle.
- You have 2 image rotation options. Each click rotates the image a quarter turn.
- The zoom level toggle maintains the image zoom as you work.
- To clear all adjustments, click Reset.
- To zoom out, click -.
- To zoom in, click +.
