Record information about enslavement or emancipation in Family Tree

Use the Other Relationship's edit feature to record dates, places, and sources about the enslavement or emancipation of a person in Family Tree.

Steps (website)

  1. Add and save the enslavement relationship.
  2. After returning to the person page, click the pencil icon (insert image of icon) that is next to the enslavement relationship.
  3. Click Add Event
  4. In the Relationship Event field, select either Enslavement or Emancipation
  5. In the fields, enter as much information as you know.
  6. Click Save
  7. If you have other events, repeat steps 4–6 to record it.
  8. Add any sources or notes that you have. (Tip: We recommend adding the notes and sources to the person, in addition to the relationship, so they are easier for other users to see.)
  9. Click X to close the screen.

Steps (mobile app)

You cannot add sources to an Other Relationship using the Family Tree mobile app. We recommend that you add the source to the person instead. If you want to also add the source to the relationship, please use the website.
