What operating systems do the FamilySearch mobile apps require?

To install and run the FamilySearch mobile apps, your device must have a supported operating system. The app may run on older operating systems, but you may not be able to update the app and get the newest features.

If you cannot update your device's operating system, you can try using FamilySearch.org using a web browser instead.  

Android

  • Operating system version 10 or higher for Tree and Memories
  • Operating system version 10 or higher for Get Involved
  • Operating system version 10 or higher for Oral Genealogies
  • Google Play 

Apple

  • Operating system version 17 (iOS 17) or higher
  • Apps store

Kindle

  • Operating system version Fire OS 6 or higher
  • Amazon Appstore for Android

Note: The Get Involved app is not available on the Amazon Appstore.

Minimum for the Get Involved mobile app

The Get Involved mobile app must run on a device that runs the following:

  • Android: Android 10 or higher
  • Apple: iOS 17 or higher

Minimum for the Family Tree mobile app

The Family Tree mobile app must run on a device that runs the following:

  • Android: Android 10 or higher. You must also use 3.3.0 or higher of the Family Tree mobile app.
  • Apple: iOS 17 or higher. You must also use version 3.6.7 or higher of the Family Tree mobile app.

Find the operating system information

On an Android device:

1. Open your device's settings.

2. Tap About Phone or About Device.

3. Tap Android Version to display your version information.

On an iOS device:

1. Launch Settings.

2. Tap General, and then tap About.

3. The number next to version indicates the iOS version.
