Why does a living person in Family Tree have multiple contributors?

Share

In Family Tree, living people typically have one contributor: you. There are three reasons why a living person can have multiple contributors. To figure out what happened, look at the Latest Changes list of the living person.

FamilySearch changed information

If the Latest Changes list shows you and FamilySearch as contributors, it means that FamilySearch made a change. For example, FamilySearch may have standardized a place or date.

Sometimes, Family Tree indicates the person has three or more contributors. The Latest Changes list shows only you and FamilySearch. This happens because FamilySearch made different types of changes at different times for different reasons. Technically, each type of FamilySearch change could be a different contributor. However, all changes made by FamilySearch have the same contact name.

A deceased person's record changed to living

If the Latest Changes list shows contributors other than you and FamilySearch, look for an entry that shows the person as deceased. The other contributors' changes were made before the record changed to living.

Relationships to deceased people changed

The Latest Changes list may show that another user changed a spouse relationship or parent-child relationship that involves the living person. Here is how that happens:

  1. The living person has a deceased father, mother, spouse, partner, or child.
  2. Another user merged duplicates of the deceased father, mother, spouse, partner, or child.
  3. The merge caused a change to the parent-child or spouse relationship.

The person who merged the duplicates did not know the merge would change a living person that only you see. Family Tree prevented this merge from breaking your pedigree and recorded the change so that you could understand what happened.
