At FamilySearch, we’ve improved the technology behind indexing. The new technology speeds up the process for making historical records searchable. We still need your help, but some of the tasks are different.
Here are answers to commonly asked questions about the updates.
Why is My Indexing being retired?
Many features from My Indexing are moving to the Opportunities page under Get Involved where more activities and features are being added. Indexing involves multiple steps, many of which volunteers can help with.
This transition will make it easier for new volunteers to discover indexing activities and for experienced indexers to explore new opportunities to help others discover their family story.
For the time being, you can access the My Indexing page here.

What will happen to my stats?
Your indexing statistics will remain unchanged and can be found on the indexing activity card on the Opportunities page and on the Your Impact page under Get Involved.
Your future indexing contributions will be recorded and displayed in these same locations.
Note: If you have been an arbiter, the arbitration statistic is combined with the reviewed statistic on the card. If you see an error in your statistics, please use the Feedback tab to send a message to our team. Be sure to include your email address, and we’ll be happy to correct it for you.

What will happen to my groups?
The new indexing activities do not support groups, so the indexing group feature has been removed. To stay connected, consider inviting those who might be interested to a FamilySearch family group or another platform like Facebook.
What will happen to my goals?
The goals feature is not part of the current indexing activities and has been removed. If you’d like it to return, please share your feedback here.
What will happen to my projects and batches?
You can still access your projects and batches. Click the Get Involved tab, and from the drop-down, select Opportunities. On the indexing tile, click Find Projects or My Batches.
What will happen to my messages?
Messages will be deleted when My Indexing is fully retired. We recommend copying and saving any important messages before then.
