Why does Explore Historical Images not have a name field?

Explore Historical Images allows you to browse digital images of historical records.

Add a keyword that includes a name

You can use a last name or a part of a name in your initial search or as a keyword when you refine the search. Here are examples of ways to try a name search:

  • Smith
  • S* (searches for S with 1 or more letters after it)
  • S

Search the index for a specific Image Group Number

Some of the Image Groups in Explore Historical Images have indexes that you can search.

  1. Perform your search.
  2. Click an Image Group Number in the search results.
  3. If the collection is indexed, you see a magnifying glass in the top-right.
  4. Click the magnifying glass icon.
  5. Enter your search terms in the Search panel and click Search.

To search only indexed records, try Search Historical Records.
