Our goal is to collect, preserve, and provide access to the history of Summit County and to continue to maintain one of the area’s most extensive genealogy collections.

Although the focus of our genealogy collection is Summit County and Ohio, we also have genealogy books for Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and other states.

Online Resources

While we cannot undertake extensive research, we will do our best to answer your question.  Please see our service guidelines for requesting photocopies and scanned documents.

The Akron-Summit County Public Library is an Affiliate Library of the Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This affiliate status allows ASCPL to borrow microfilm for library patrons directly from the Genealogical Society of Utah.

Past Pursuitsis the electronic newsletter published quarterly by the Special Collections Division.  It contains articles about genealogical research and local history.  It also highlights local historical or cultural events and resources available to the community.
