Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

There are four wards and one branch (congregations) meeting at two separate places:  650 Pocatello Avenue and 111 Church Place, both in American Falls.

Historical

Many of the original records of church units are in the Church History Library in Salt Lake City. Many of the membership records covering these units from the date of their creation to about 1948 have been microfilmed and are available at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City or at its Family History Centers.

Historical

The Family History Library in Salt Lake City has microfilmed copies of church registers found in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise.  Among these registers are those from Our Lady of Lourdes and Blessed Sacrament in American Falls.

History

Wilson Price Hunt expedition camped at the falls in 1811. Oregon Trail passes north of town through the present-day reservoir. The town in 1925 relocated and move close to the American Falls Dam construction site. The old town site sits at the bottom of the reservoir, northeast of the present city. John C. Fremont visited the town in 1843. The total Population of American Falls in 1930 was 1,888. The Dam was completed in 1978. American Falls was an important station on the Oregon Short Line Railroad.
