Category:Town recordsEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
This category is about civil records created by town officials to document birth, marriage, divorce, or death events. The category "Town records" is especially used in the New Enland states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont and may replace the category of "Vital records" which would be the preferred usage outside those states. Also prefer the category "Civil registration" outside the United States and Canada.
Town records often include information about elections, officers, meeting minutes, laws, warnings out, and other public records. If these are present and being described in a Wiki article, it may be best to add further categories that include non-birth-marriage-death kinds of information.
This category does not include cemeteries, church records, directories, lists of religious groups, town histories, or land records.
