Place of Birth or Nationality Field: Please note the following instructions were given for this project:

Priority list (IF there is no info in Place of Birth, use Nationality, and so on)

   1.   Place of Birth (on the individual manifest cards, it is a third 
         the way down on the left)
   2.   Nationality
   3.   Race


When indexing the information in this field, keep the following instructions in mind:

    A.  Type the term or terms as they were written. Type what you see.
    B.  Do not correct misspellings or expand abbreviations. 
    C.  Do not index punctuation, except hyphens and apostrophes when they
          were written on the document as part of the name.


NOTE: If it is difficult to read the information listed, check elsewhere on the manifests. It may also be in last residence.
