FamilySearch Indexing: US Veterans Pension Cards, 1907-1933, FAQEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
I have run into single index cards on an image. I called the 800 number and was told that we are to index the card in the 01 spot. For the 02 spot we are to call the image "normal" but put blanks in the required info spots.
Q: I have an image that shows one history and one ledger. The next image shows the opposite side for both. I cannot mark only one record as "no extractable data" because the indexing program automatically assumes that the entire image is "no extractable data" instead of the record. How shall I index the half-image that has no extractable data, as blank?
A: mark both as "normal", then mark the ledger record as "blank". Index the history record as per field helps.
Q: What happened to the slide show presentation? I can not find it now.
A: under project instructions there is a link lables "how to index this project"
Q: How do I index Charge Dummy Cards?
A: Enter Normal and then blank remaining columns (ctrl B)
Q: Army Widow card gives widow's name as Smith Joyce. Beside it is Former Widow. Soldier's name is George Jones. Do we index her surname as Jones Smith?
Q: When the Widow shows up on the ledger side of the card clearly labled as widow, Where should we index her name?
A: index the ledger side of the card as No extractable data image, the researcher will be able to see the ledger side of the card to find the information
