Description

This task involves 4 parts. They involve updating the headings in a county structure to make them more uniform for Pennsylvania.

Instruction

PART A

1. Log into the wiki.

2. Go to Pennsylvania. From this page, click on the first county in the alphabetical list of counties.

3. When you are on the county page, review the county page table of contents.

4. For now, ignore the heading, "County Courthouse."

5. In wikitext, change the next heading, "History" to "Historical Facts."

6. Make sure "Historical Facts" remains in same heading number as before (the same as the "Resources" heading).

7. Under "Places/Localities" in wikitext cut "Neighboring Counties" and all of the information under it and paste it after "Boundary Changes" (located under the heading "Historical Facts.") This pushes the heading "Record Loss" down. "Neighboring Counties" should be the same heading as "Boundary Changes."

8. Go to Part B.

PART B

1. In wikitext, change the heading "Places/Localities" to just "Places."

2. Now cut the section starting with "Places" and everything under it. ("Neighboring Counties" should have been moved in Part A above.)

3. Go to the end of the page and paste this section just above the heading "References"

4. Make sure "Places" remains in same heading number as before (the same as the "Resources" heading).

5. Go down to the bottom of the screen and add an edit summary of "fixing county headings" and save the page.

6. Go to Part C.

PART C

1. Within the same county, review the table of contents to see what is listed under the "Resources" heading.

2.  If there is a "Local Histories" heading, change the heading to "History" and move the heading and any information under the heading to the appropriate spot with the other resources in alphabetical order.

3. Using the appropriate list below, insert any missing headings in alphabetic order in the appropriate heading (headings 3 or 4) as compared to other headings.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN!

  • Make sure you are in wikitext
  • You will not be able to paste the whole list on the page, because many headings are already added. This list is to make sure that all of these headings are included on each county page.
  • You may also rename a heading if it does not match those in the list. For example, if the heading on the county page is "Court," you may change it to "Court Records" to make it consistant with other county pages.
  • If there are additional headings not on this list, leave them there. Do not erase the heading or any of the information. If there is a variation of the heading, change it to the correct heading from below.

4. Go to Part D.

PART D

1. Make sure you are still in wikitext.

2. Under the heading, "Societies and Libraries," cut the information under the heading, "Family History Centers".

3. Now go to the heading "Repositories" and under the subheading, "Family History Centers" paste the information.

4. Go back to the heading, "Societies and Libraries".  Add any other information written under the heading to the appropriate heading under "Repositories."

5. Once you are done moving the information, go back to the heading "Societies and Libraries" and delete it and any other subheadings (such as Family History Centers).

6. Go to the top of the county page and cut the heading "County Courthouse" and any information under the heading.

7. Go to the heading, "Repositories" and replace the subheading, "County Courthouse" by pasting the information. If there is a link in the "County Courthouse' heading, cut and paste the link into the title of the county. Then erase the old heading. We do not want the link in the heading. It should look like the following:

Courthouse

County of Berks
633 Court Street
Reading, PA 19601
Phone: (610) 478-6136
Hours: 8 AM to 5 PM
Closed on holidays

8. Go down to the bottom of the screen and add an edit summary of "fixing county headings" and save the page.

9. Review the whole page and make sure all the changes were done correctly.  Also test the link to the County Courthouse website.

10. Return to the top of the page and click on the state name in the bread crumb trail.

11. While on the state page, choose the next county on the list and go to beginning of this task and start at Part A, number 3.
