Record Description

These records include two complete collections: Sección Nueva Encuadernación (Rebinding Section) and Sección Propiedades y Testamentos (Properties and Wills Section). Copies of the original records are housed at the Archivo Nacional in Asunción, Paraguay. The “Propiedades y Testamentos” section can give a brief look at the personal wealth of clerics, economic bases of resident foreigners in Paraguay, or the fortunes of a given family over a period of time. The text of the records is in Spanish.

Record Content

Work documents usually contain the following information:

  • Name of employee
  • Proof of payment
  • Location and date
  • Salary
  • Department

Wills usually contain the following information:

  • Name
  • Residence
  • Family members
  • Possessions

Deeds usually contain the following information:

  • Property owners
  • Date of land sale
  • Property description

How to Use the Record

To search the collection you will need to follow this series of links:
⇒ Select the "Browse" link in the initial search page
⇒ Select the "Section" category
⇒ Select the "Box, Volume and Years" category which takes you to the images.

Search the collection by image, comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine which one is your ancestor. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to make this determination.

As you are searching it is helpful to know such information as your ancestor’s given name and surname, some identifying information such as residence and age, and family relationships. Remember that there may be more than one person in the records with the same name as your ancestor and that your ancestor may have used nicknames or different names at different times.
