Collection Description:

Pikes Peak Library District Special Collections (genealogy and regional history) is located in the 1905 Carnegie Library, 20 N. Cascade Ave., in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The largest genealogy library in southern Colorado, PPLD Special Collections contains print, electronic and microfilm resources for genealogical research in the United States and Canada, from the Colonial period onwards. PPLD also is a FamilySearch affiliate library and is able to receive microfilm loans from the Family History Library. Several modern and well-maintained microfilm reader/printers/scanners are available for use. The genealogy area offers a bank of computers dedicated to genealogical research, with subscriptions to major genealogical databases,

The regional history collection has extensive resources for genealogical research in Colorado and the Pikes Peak Region, including regional newspaper titles dating from 1872 with a comprehensive online index (http://more.ppld.org:8080/SpecialCollections/Index/article_search.asp). Special Collections also contains extensive manuscript, photograph, map and oral history collections pertaining to the history and culture of the Pikes Peak region, Colorado and the American West.

The library offers many free genealogy workshops and classes throughout the year, on its own and in conjunction with the Pikes Peak Genealogical Society. Information can be found on the PPLD website (Pikes Peak Library District.org regional history genealogy programs classes).
