Property Tax records
Property Tax records (registre de impozite) start in some area of Romania as early as 1520. It is estimated that around 25% of the general population paid some form of taxes. Like land records, tax records were kept more rigorously in areas under Ottoman vassalage or occupation. These records can be used to locate individuals and families prior to or in areas where church records are incomplete or non-existent.
Names of persons taxed, residence, farm names, removals, and dates of residence.
