Talk:Bawtry, Yorkshire GenealogyEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
Bawtry St Nicholas is a parish in Southwell diocese and the original chapelry became a parish centuries ago. In addition to the copyright issue in pasting gazetteer entry text from a copyright site the value of the gazetteer text in describing the parish history is questionable where the town is in the county of Yorkshire but since the 12th century has been within the Retford deanery of Southwell.
Gazetteer information from 1848 is of questionable relevance; the crucial point here is the correct diocese and therefore record location for researchers and the ability to locate the parish within Doncaster South Yorkshire for other record sources. Gazetteer entries are occasionally useful as links but the practice of pasting text which does not constitute a parish history or guide the reader to record sources is dubious.
