From FamilySearch Wiki

I'm new to the wiki, and trying to understand how it works.  I had posted a question, and now the page has been "blanked" without any kind of answer.  Am I right that this page should be for a back-and-forth discussion?  If not, please let me know where/how to post.  Thanks.

Yes you are correct this page is for communication. However it does take time.  Pleasr state you question again. Then come back to this page.  Also the Wiki has forums at www.familysearch.org/learn/forums/en/forumdisplay.php  and help pages at www.familysearch.org/help/self-help Thanks for your coming to the Wiki.  Sandralpond 13:23, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Arbitration of Extracted Counties

I am currently arbitrating these records, and am requesting clarification of the extraction of counties.

For "shires" in Great Britian, and "counties" in Ireland, the indexers have been extracting the data into the "Birth State or Province" field. I am seeing this in almost 100% of the applicable records when a shire/county is available..

Yet, in the powerpoint presentation attached to this project, it indicates that "counties" are not to be extracted.  For Great Britain and Ireland, aren't the shire/county the equivalent of a state/province in other countries?

So, should these be extracted or not?  If not, as an arbitrator should I be overrideing these fields and setting them to blank?   --Jeaniedave 13:33, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

These are indexing questions and should be answered by the indexing team.Lynda 21:20, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
