About this index
This article describes a legacy collection. Legacy collections were created from information pulled from various databases owned by the LDS Church. The collection may have been constructed from several sources. You can track down information about a specific microfilm number. To do that: Search for a name in the index. If the results list includes a microfilm number, search for it in the FamilySearch Catalog. I searched for the name Horan and found Jerry Horan. The citation at the bottom of his results page is: Citing this Record
"Illinois Marriages, 1815-1935," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/V2LG-NHP : accessed 04 Jun 2014), Jerry Horan and Mary Hartman, 14 May 1884; citing , Cook, Illinois; FHL microfilm 1030139.
I then searched for this microfilm number in the FamilySearch Catalog and found this:
Marriage licenses, 1871-1920; index, 1871-1916 Author: Cook County (Illinois). County Clerk; Illinois. County Court (Cook County)
Dorothy Horan, User Guidance Supervisor 03:36, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Since the index entry provides the microfilm number, I would propose that the coverage table be brought up to a more prominent position, and that the important connection between the index and the film number be emphasized. Readers don't actually need to do anything with the batch number in order to glean the important info from the record. Lise 00:17, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Information about the Index
The record description isn't very useful. Where did the records come from? There is no credit that I could find given to the originators of the information. ie Illinois state government? Where did the original information come from? What information is available on the original records versus the database? I probably should have rated this as poor.
