Talk:New Hampshire, Birth Records (FamilySearch Historical Records)Edit This Page

From FamilySearch Wiki

The original town records from which the Hancock and Grofton births were transcribed are available on Fold3.com, under the New Hampshire Town Records collection. It is important to explain to users of this collection that the records were not recorded at the time of the birth, but were compiled by hand in 1905.  Also, there is no index to scan, no certificate number to record.  Lise 15:27, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

How to Use This Collection

I'm not sure the text has anything to do with "How to Use This Collection" -

To begin your search you will need to know: The full name
Approximate birth date
Birth place Search the Collection Fill in the requested information in the initial search page. Look at the list of entries created by your search. Compare the information about the ancestors in the list to what you already know about your ancestors to determine if this is the correct family or person. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to find your ancestor.

You don't actually have to have a full name to search these records.  In fact, it may be really, really helpful to search by a surname only, or by a combination of parents' first names, or any other search logic.  You don't need an approximate birth date to search, but you may need to be able to filter results by decade.  Birthplace is non-essential.  The paragraph that follows is not specific to the collection, and not useful for anyone who has ever searched records on-line.  I would propose deleting the section completely.

When people come to the wiki pages for explanation about the collections on Historical Records, they're looking for what's unique about the collection. What years are included in the collection? Are there years missing?  What counties/towns are there? Are some counties or towns missing?  Are there fields I can search off of that are unique to this database?  Lise 23:35, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
