Talk:New Jersey Births and Christenings (FamilySearch Historical Records)Edit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
Upon researching my New Jersey ancestors I have found the birth and marriage dates to be off by one year. After looking at the original microfilm I saw the problem. The dates at the top of the original documents covered a two year span (Example: 1880-1881) going from the middle of one year and lapsing around to the middle of the next year ( Example: July 1880 -June 1881). the records were indexed using the first year only (Example: 1880), So ,using these examples, if the ancestor was born between 1 of Jan to 30 of June the year was not adjusted from 1880 to 1881. Hence, someone born on 1 Jan 1881 was indexed to 1 Jan 1880.
