Talk:United States, Civil War Widows and Other Dependents Pension Files (FamilySearch Historical Records)Edit This Page

From FamilySearch Wiki

The NARA record title for this collection is:

Case Files of Approved Pension Applications of Widows and Other Dependents of Veterans of the Army and Navy Who Served Mainly in the Civil War and the war with Spain ("Civil War and Later Widows' Certificates")

The ARC Identifier is:

300020

I have forwarded you concerns on to the collection manager in charge of this collection.

I'm very confused. After doing a search in this collection entitled "United States, Civil War Widows and Other Dependents Pension Files", I get results, which, on the details page say that the records are from:

NARA Publication Title: Case Files of Approved Pension Applications of Widows and Other Dependents of Civil War Veterans, ca. 1861-ca. 1910
and
ARC Identifier: 300020

The National Archives Archival Research Catalog (Arc) shows ARC ID 300020 as:

"Case Files of Approved Pension Applications of Widows and Other Veterans of the Army and Navy Who Served Mainly in the Civil War and The War With Spain ("Civil War and Later Widows' Certificates"): Nos. WC 2 - 1,651,647, compiled 1861 - 1934"

I believe the 'NARA Publication Title" field, as well as the title of the FamilySearch collection "United States, Civil War Widows and Other Dependents Pension Files" refer to NARA M1279, "Case Files of Approved Pension Applications of Widows and Other Dependents of Civil War and Later Navy Veterans, ('Navy Widows' Certificates'), 1861-1910".

However, the description of the records and the ARC ID number appear to refer to a different collection, the 1861-1934 "Civil War and Later Widows' Certificates".

Which is correct?

I could be wrong, but I think the ARC ID number is incorrect. According to Fold3's website one has not been assigned yet.
