Talk:User group meeting & agenda 8 October 2008Edit This Page

From FamilySearch Wiki

On some of the pages in our research wiki, links to the old Research Outlines have been placed under references. Many of those research outlines are woefully out-of-date and are being corrected and updated in the Wiki. Furthermore, haven't those research outlines all been auto-imported into the Wiki? Why then are we continuing to add links to something that is obsolete?

Baerbel J, moderator for Germany had me mass-purge a certain group of old Research Outlines for Germany Vital records before she left for Germany. She said they were duplicates and obsolete, too. dsammy 23:50, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Guiding Principles

This document states we should not link to any site which charges for their services. Is that really realistic? Sometimes the best source of information may be in a commercial site. Is it wrong to tell our users about such a site, as long as we also tell them it is a subscription site? Could we have a little discussion about this?

Related to that is the need for a bit of discussion regarding how extensive we should be in citations -- how many references for each article or section of a page? What about citing best sources, even if they may be accessible in only a limited way?, etc.
