Attempts to download PHP on own computer
There had been several attempts by server to install PHP in my computer, after saving the pages. Any way to stop it from happening again and again? dsammy 04:18, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
That is definitely weird. Have never had such a message myself. PHP enabled hosting is very common in the hosting business, that is one thing that many web hosting companies use in advertising to attract customers is the ability to host sites coded in PHP. The current trend is to advertise hosting websites coded in Ruby on Rails and a few newer languages, since PHP is so common now. .JamesAnderson 05:18, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
The exact obnoxious message I kept getting:
Opening Special Search which is a: application/octet-stream from https://wiki.familysearch.org
What should Firefox do with this file?
Open with (Brown) button Save File (it is always clicked on)
I wanted to search for another article or to save the page after making corrections, adding information, or even saving new page!
When this message shows up, I have to close the browser because the search will not work or saved page will not reload properly (literally frozen).
This infuriates me to no end. dsammy 06:22, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Sammy, I asked our engineer to look into this and see what could be causing it. Here is his reply:
I cannot duplicate the behavior described above in either Firefox or IE7. When this type of thing happens it is usually that PHP is not configured appropriately in apache2 on the server but I have verified that this is not the case. There may be an issue with dsammy's computer or browser configuration!?

The problem is it is only familysearch.org giving me grief with this. I have other sites having PHP and they don't try. dsammy 17:24, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Until we can recreate this problem there is nothing that our engineers can do. If others are having this same problem please let me know. If anyone can come up with the steps or the settings to create this problem on another machine please let me know.

Might we talk about the subject of teamwork. As with a choir, it’s sound is much more enjoyable if effort is taken in the blending and not someone doing a solo when the object is for harmony. John Stockton is famous for his assists. The rough game of hockey encourages assists also. Criticism does not assist; it can be viewed only as a demolition crew. The object should be to work on building upon each other’s work. Occasionally in our building process we might have to do a little remodeling, but that doesn’t require total demolition to accomplish. Our focus should be on the building. When we come across those users that are contributing, let’s work as mentors instead of hall monitors. As they grow, so will the wiki. I like the saying, “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”
