Talk:Washington County, MarylandEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
County page is being considered as a feature page. The links in the current article for the Census Districts and Communities are all stubs. Might it make more sense to link to Wikipedia articles. Most of these census districts and communities are very small. I doubt that significant addition will be made our Wiki stubs.

I just wanted you folks to know you're doing great work on this page! Thanks, FamilyJournals for your many contributions! You are working hard on this stuff, and it shows! Thanks, Dsammy, for posting the first map on this page! And thanks, David Dilts, for the addition of great images! Ritcheymt 15:04, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
OK to change background color?
I'd like to feature this page as a good example of a county page, and I'm wondering something. Are you contributors married to the grey background, or can I change it to white? If I feature the page, it'll basically be telling others informally to start modelling their own county pages after this one. However, we've discussed readability before, and for the visually impaired, grey is a very hard-to-read background for black text, especially if they're using a laptop. Would it ruin anyone's day if I changed the background to white before featuring the article? Ritcheymt 15:04, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Go for it! I put those colors when I copied the format from an article done by David Dilts. The color on my mac is very subtle, but when I looked at the page from my dell, I really could see what a difference it was. So I say, change away! FamilyJournals 15:46, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
The listing of cemeteries is way over the board on the county list. Much of these cemeteries can be listed in the cities/townships pages. dsammy 15:57, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- Your opinion is noted. Familyjournals 16:14, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
recommend that you remove the duplicate entries from county cemetery page - the ones already listed under Hagerstown, Sharpsburg, etc. This will take some time to winnow down to only the rural cemeteries left on county cemetery page. The manger of GNIS notified me of their efforts to update the database to pick up missed cemeteries, the cemetery category is one they needed assistance from the locals or others with the knowledge of them, especially the locations. dsammy 04:55, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Church section heading
And the Church (needs to change to "Church History and Records" per management team to clarify the intent of the Wiki as a resource for records, rather than mere links to current churches), link is to Hometownlocator which serve no purpose other than showing locations of current churches in the area. And the Hometownlocator does not link to any of actual church websites at all. You have to google to find those websites as I have done for several churches in various places (yes, it is a maddening thing to do but take your time.) dsammy 04:55, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- FYI, the above change proposed to the Church section isn't dictated by the wiki content management team, of which I am the head. <g> We now have a process for any system-wide change desired by a user: to post the proposal on FamilySearch Wiki Talk:Manual of Style, solicit opinions, try to reach consensus, and if consensus is reached, the item can be added to FamilySearch Wiki:Manual of Style.
