Could you tell me where in record search you can find the parish of ancroft, Northumberland?
The current image set appears incomplete and further engineering work will need to undertaken to establish missing images. The deposited registers are at:Northumberland County Archives Service
RefNo EP 17/1
General register, Baptisms, 1742 - 1812, Marriages, 1742 - 1765, Burials, 1742 - 1812, Dissenters' baptisms, 1812 - 1844 The transcript collection is at Durham University Library Archives and Special Collections DDR/EA/PBT/2/11/ Parish Register transcripts are available to search free online at Record Search.
The dates of the post-1760 transcripts have been noted in detail and sometimes only cover years. For most parishes in the collection there are gaps in the sequence of transcripts. It is advisable to consult the original parish registers for these years and events.
The assembly of transcripts for Northumberland parishes is historically problematic and the Durham Diocesan registry (See wiki article on The Howe MSS collection) labelled Ancroft "North Durham". Pending Record Search engineering correcting this the material for Ancroft can be found under "North Durham" Unknown and Ancroft images as well Northumberland>Ancroft>1764-1867. When re-engineered a wiki aricle will be prepared for the parish. Record search assembly followed the DDR description of "North Durham". This description from the early Diocesan registry (transcribed in later centuries including the 1951 DUL title page) conjures up a Durham based clerk describing the extremity of the diocese.
It is hoped to reunite the image collection in Northumberland>Ancroft shortly and remove the "North Durham" section. Hopethis enables you tolocate the years you wish. I would like to thank you for your very clear explanation of "North Durham" and to ask are all the parishes in Northumberland available on Record Search yet?
