Church Records

Microfilm at the Family History Library contain parish registers from Østre Aker parish. Belonged to the combined Aker clerical district until 1861. Included Nordstrand until 1906. For earlier records see Vestre Aker clerical district.

Images of the church books are online at Digitalarkivet.

History of the parish

Østre Aker clerical district was created by the division of Aker clerical district by Royal resolution February 16, 1861. It included that part of Aker which lay east of the city. On the north of the city the border was between Sinsen and Torshov and then further north on the east side of Grefsen farm. The islands in the fjord, which earlier had belonged to Oslo-Oslo Hospital, should belong to Østre Aker.

In 1906 the southern part of the clerical district was separated as its own clerical district, Nordstrand.

  • Royal resolution March 7, 1947-- The northeastern part of Østre Aker became Grorud parish.
  • Royal resolution March 19, 1954-- Parts of Østre Aker were taken to create Hasle congregation on April 1, 1954.
  • Royal resolution November 30 1956-- Sinsen congregation was created October 1, 1957 from parts of Østre Aker.
  • Royal resolution October 3, 1958-- Tonsen, Oppsal and Manglerud congregations included parts of Østre Aker.
  • Royal resolution October 1, 1965-- Tveten congregation was created from parts of Østre Aker.

The boundaries of Grorud, Grefsen, Kampen and Vålerengen are specified in the Royal resolution October 3, 1958.
