Brief History

The 101st Regiment was organized at Monroeville, Ohio, August 30, 1862.  At the end of the war, it moved to Nashville, Tennessee and had duty there till June. The Regiment mustered out June 12, 1865[1].

For more information on the history of this unit, see:

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - Many men from Huron County[2]

Company D - Many men from Huron County[2]
