Brief History

The 16th Battalion State Cavalry is also known as Ham’s 1st Battalion Mississippi State Cavalry and Ham's Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry.

More information and a list of companies with their counties of origin can be found at the above links. This battalion is not found on the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Internet site.

Regiment Companies with the County of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
