Brief History

2nd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry was assembled at Garysburg, North Carolina, in May, 1861. It surrendered only 6 officers and 48 men.[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

In the regiment five companies were from Madison, Stokes, Randolph, Surry and Forsyth Counties. One was from Mecklenburg County, Virginia and two from Pike and Meriwether Counties, Georgia.[2]
