Brief History

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A (The Richardson Guards) - many men from Madison County

Company B ( Rappahannock Guard) - many men from Rappahannock County

Company C (Hazelwood Volunteers) - many men from Culpeper County

Company D (The Mountain Boomers) - many men from Giles County

Company E (Hazelwood Volunteers) - many men from Culpaper County

Company F                                          many men from Green County

Company G ( Sperryville Sharpshooters) - many men from Rappahannock County

Company H (The Washington Volunteers) - many men from Washington, D.C.

Company  I  (The Holcombe Guards) - many  men from Albemarle County

Company K ( the Madison Grays) - many men from Madison County

The information above is from 7th Virginia Infantry, by David F. Riggs
