Astafjord is a parish in Ibestad clerical district. Records begin in 1751.

1664-1666 Census for Astafjord can be found on microfilm at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah it include the parishes of Ibestad, Astafjord, Lenvik, Dyrøy and Tranøy.  This census was taken by the local parish priests.

The census of 1701 was taken for military purposes. It lists only the males living in rural districts who were over the age of one year. It includes the farm name, name and age of the owner, names and ages of sons and servants. May include the residence of a servant if he was born in a differen clerical district.

Senja deanery (prosti) includes the heirs of the clergy (priest, parish clerk, schoolteachers, and the widows). Contains the name of the guardian, name of the deceased, name and birth date of the heir, amount of money, and other miscellaneous information.
