AUDENSHAW, a division, [a chapelry created in 1844] in the parish and union of Ashton-under-Lyne, hundred of Salford, S. division of the county of Lancaster, 5 miles east by south of Manchester; comprising the villages of Audenshaw, Hooleyhill, Littlemoss, North-street, Walkmill, Waterhouses, and Woodhouses. The village of Audenshaw is large and populous, and is situated a mile and a half west of Ashton. A church district was formed in 1844, dedicated to St Stephen. There are places of worship for Wesleyan Methodists and Methodists New Connexion.
Birth, marriages and deaths were kept by the government, from July 1837 to the present day. The civil registration article tells more about these records. There are several Internet sites with name lists or indexes. A popular site is FreeBMD.
