Austria goes online!
The project „Matricula-Kirchenbuch-/Matrikelportal“ envisions the creation of a portal for churchbooks/maktrikels for Central Europe. This is a joint effort of the Lutheran Church(DE, evang.) and the Katholic Church (DE, r-kath.) in connection with the “Bundeskonferenz of church Archives“ (DE, r.-kath.), the "Verband kirchlicher Archive" (DE, evang.), the Bistumarchives Passau and Hildesheim (both DE), as well as the archive of the diocese St. Pölten (AT), the National Archive of Oberösterreich (AT) and the Moravský Zemský Archiv (CZ).
The church records of the diocese St. Pölten (Niederösterreich) are now online on the website http://www.matricula.findbuch.net. So far 164 of 424 parishes are online. There are plans to digitize the rest of the records which are still in the parishes, as well as the records of the monasteries and the records of the archdiocese Vienna. There is no charge to look at the records; all you have to do is to install the Adobe Flash Player.
