Baker City Information

Founded in 1863, platted in 1864, 17th oldest city in Oregon, named for Baker County. Post Office established 27 March 1866 with William F. McCrary as postmaster. In 1911 the name was changed to "Baker" to conform to the new style adopted by the voters. The name was restored in a later election on 7 November 1989.
