Aschaffenburg unfortunately lies on a major crossroad in northern Bavaria that was the scene of many major battles in wars continuously throughout the history of the area. For that reason the population has been very volatile and somewhat transient. Records from this area have been destroyed on numerous occasions up to and including World War II.
