These records are in Portuguese. For help reading these records, look at Portuguese Genealogical Word List.

This collection will include records from 1902-1980.

The collection contains immigration cards issued by Brazilian consulates around the world and presented at the port of entry by foreigners visiting or immigrating to Brazil. These records are housed at the Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo. Additional images will be published as they become available.


Record Content

Records may contain the following information:

  • Name of immigrant
  • Date and place of immigration
  • Nationality

Some records may also contain:

  • Family members (including parents)
  • Birth information

How to Use the Record

To search the collection you will need to follow this series of links:
To search the collection image by image select "Browse through images" on the initial collection page
⇒Select the appropriate "Letter"
⇒Select the appropriate "Surname" which takes you to the images.

Look at the images one by one comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine if the image relates to them. You may need to look at several images and compare the information about the individuals listed in those images to your ancestors to make this determination.

  • Your ancestor may have used different names or variations of their name throughout their life.
