History

Buhl was founded on April 17, 1906. It was named for Frank H. Buhl, a major investor in a Carey Act project known as the Twin Falls South Side project, which introduced large-scale irrigation to the region in the early 20th Century. The Oregon Trail is located on the western half of Twin Falls. The Historical U.S. Route 30 goes through Buhl along the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway. Buhl is known as the “Trout Capital of the world. The total population of the Buhl precincts was 4,489 in 1930.
