Guide to Bury St John, Lancashire family history and genealogy: chapelry register transcripts, census records, birth records, marriage records, and death records.

Contents

Parish History

Bury (St John) was created as a chapelry of ease in the year 1770 from Bury St Mary Ancient Parish. The township is SE. Lancashire, 11 miles NW. of Manchester and 195 NW. of London by rail. Bury is connected by canal with Manchester and Bolton.[1]

Resources

Civil Registration

Birth, marriages and deaths were kept by the government, from July 1837 to the present day. The civil registration article tells more about these records. There are several Internet sites with name lists or indexes. A popular site is FreeBMD.
