Category talk:United Kingdom FamilySearch Historical RecordsEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
removed Category:European FamilySearch Historical Records, parent Category:British Isles FamilySearch Historical Records is already a sub-cat of European FamilySearch Historical Records . Added categories England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, thus allowing navigation to it's sub-cats from the country categories and catching all FamilySearch Historical Records related to these countries.
- I have restored the Category:European FamilySearch Historical Records as the United Kingdom is part of Europe. Yes Category:British Isles FamilySearch Historical Records is already a sub-category of Category:European FamilySearch Historical Records, but some researchers may only be familiar with one of these terms. Note UK is a sub-category of British Isles, but British Isles is not a sub-cat of UK. --Steve 06:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- I understand all but the last part of the above comment: "British Isles is not sub-cat of UK."? Did you mean not sub-cat of Europe"? -- Lotje2 06:45, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- No the British Isles are within Europe and so this is an acceptable category. The British Isles in not within the United Kingdom, which is what I meant by saying "British Isles is not sub-cat of UK". I don't think this was ever added as a category, but I mentioned it by way of explaining that the terms have different meanings and are not always interchangeable. Put another way - the majority of the sub-categories for European FamilySearch Historical Records are countries, but it does include some like the "British Isles" which is a geographical sub-set of Europe. Unless every country is put into a geographical sub-cat I think it is acceptable for a the collections for country to be both included in the European category and a category for a well known smaller geographic sub-set. --Steve 13:03, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
